We were disappointed to learn that Ward Davis, who was originally scheduled to join us this weekend, needed to step away due to a family matter. We completely understand and are sending our very best to Ward and his family.
But in true songwriter fashion, Ward made sure the music would continue—and connected us with an incredible songwriter and artist we are thrilled to welcome to Seven Keys Lodge for the first time: Tommy Karlas.
And if Tommy’s name isn’t immediately familiar, there’s a very good chance his songs are.
Tommy has spent more than two decades on Nashville’s Music Row, writing songs that have been recorded by some of the biggest names in country music, including Blake Shelton, Randy Travis, Old Dominion, Montgomery Gentry, Trisha Yearwood, Warren Zeiders, Tyler Farr, Trey Lewis, Colt Ford, Drake Milligan, Love & Theft, John Schneider and many more.
Among his credits are Blake Shelton’s “What I Wouldn’t Give,” Randy Travis’ “Not Your Cross to Bear,” Old Dominion’s “That’s How We Do Summertime,” Warren Zeiders’ “Up to No Good,” and the Montgomery Gentry smash “Roll With Me.”
“Roll With Me” became a multi-week No. 1, was the fastest-rising and most-downloaded song of Montgomery Gentry’s career, and earned Tommy an ASCAP Songwriter of the Year nomination. Today, Tommy writes for Sony Music Publishing/Droptine, his songwriting catalog has surpassed 300 million streams, and he is a regular performer at Nashville’s legendary Bluebird Café.
That is exactly the kind of songwriter we love bringing to the intimate setting of Seven Keys Lodge.
Three Songwriters. Two Nights. One Very Special Stage.
Joining Tommy this weekend are Wesley Hanna and Mark Powell, bringing together three songwriters whose music and stories come from very different roads.
Wesley Hanna is a Fort Worth–based independent country singer-songwriter whose story is as authentically Texas as his music. Before trading the hardhat for a cowboy hat, Wesley worked as a roughneck and oilfield engineer. Today, he has built a reputation as a true barroom poet, writing traditional country songs filled with honest storytelling, honky-tonk roots and real-life experience. His latest album, Magnolia, showcases that songwriting beautifully, with ten self-penned originals.
And of course, Mark Powell brings his own West Texas roots, songs and stories to the Seven Keys stage—a place that has become pretty special to him for more reasons than one.
Put the three of them together, and this is exactly what our Singer-Songwriter Summer Series was created for: an intimate evening where the stories behind the songs matter just as much as the songs themselves.
This isn’t simply a concert.
It’s a chance to sit just a few feet away from the people who write the music, hear where the songs came from, discover songs you may already know through other artists, and hear others exactly the way they sounded when they were first written.
